Mrs. Smith's Chemistry students and principal Mr. Sherman made the most fascinating discovery—they found out that their sense of taste, especially for sweet things like chocolate and sugar, could actually be altered temporarily! After exploring how certain substances interact with taste receptors, they were amazed to realize that something as familiar as sweetness could suddenly taste different or even disappear for a short time. The room was full of excitement as students eagerly compared their experiences, laughing in surprise when their favorite treats like M&Ms and Sour Patch kids didn’t taste the way they expected. It was incredible to watch them connect chemistry concepts to their own senses and see just how much science shapes the way we experience the world! It was such a powerful reminder that our senses, when paired with critical thinking, are some of the most important tools we have in chemistry! #ColonelTOUGH

Students in Mrs. Smith's AP Chemistry class reviewed experimental design, data collection, and data analysis by making origami frogs out of construction paper, printer paper, origami paper, and card stock following the same folding instructions. They carefully collected data by performing multiple trials for each frog and recording their results in organized tables. Next, students analyzed the data by calculating averages and making a graph. They also discussed possible sources of error in their experiment. Students were able to use their evidence to make and justify a claim about the effect of paper type on the distance frogs could jump! #ColonelTOUGH
