What an unforgettable day in Chemistry! Mrs. Smith's students took part in the highly anticipated Element Speed Dating event, and it was a huge hit! Each student came prepared as the element they researched—complete with creative hashtags, clever likes and dislikes, and even some delightfully cheesy pick-up lines that brought science (and plenty of laughter) to life.
As they “mingled,” students demonstrated an impressive understanding of how and why certain elements bond to form compounds. They confidently explained which types of elements their own element would be compatible with—and just as importantly—which ones would be total deal-breakers. From ionic attraction to covalent compatibility, they made chemistry concepts shine through humor, personality, and quick thinking.
Their energy, creativity, and chemistry knowledge made this event both educational and incredibly fun. Mrs. Smith is so proud of the way they brought the periodic table to life today! #ColonelTOUGH

What an exciting day in Mrs. Smith's AP Chemistry class! Her students dove into the fascinating world of alloys with a hands-on lab that quite literally transformed ordinary pennies into “gold” and “silver.” Using heat, zinc, and a bit of chemistry magic, students created silver-colored pennies by coating them with zinc, and then heated them further to form “gold” pennies—an alloy of copper and zinc known as brass.
This investigation helped students see firsthand how altering the composition of a metal can change its appearance and properties. They were genuinely amazed to watch their pennies change color right before their eyes!

Our CRHS varsity football team's season ended on Friday with an incredibly close 27-26 playoff loss to Cambridge-SD High School. The team had a great season with a fantastic group of seniors, which included being named 1A Bayside Champions and a big win over NCHS! #ColonelTOUGH #homegrown
